All About Face Primer

We all have heard everybody raved about primers and how it just transforms one's makeup look. Let us see what it is and how does it work.

Primer is a base for the foundation that we use to enhance our beauty. It is basically a silicone  based formula which helps in smoothing the skin by clearing the fine lines and filling out the pores.

Different Types
Primers are also of different types, following is the broad break up of the same:

  1. Content:
  • Oil based : It is suitable for dry to very dry skin types and gives out more shine. More of a dewy looks that the skin doesn't look too dry.
  • Creamy: is it suitable for dry skin again it moisturises the skin.
  • Water based: it is very light weight and is transparent in nature since it is water based. It is suitable for all skin types including oily or blemished skin.
      2. Texture
  • Matte: It is suitable for oily or combination skin. It gives out satin finish with no shine at all.
  • Shiny: In this type of primer shimmery  particles are added for a pearl and radiant complexion.

Benefits:
  1. Barrier between skin and makeup
  2. Improves overall makeup appearance better
  3. Helps foundation stay longer.
  4. Prevents oxidisation of foundation with skin. ( Sometimes foundation tends to oxidises with the skin, to help overcome this problem a primer was introduced so that skin doesn't come directly in contact).
How to Apply
  • Take coin size of product onto the fingers.
  • Apply the primer in the centre of the face and use gentle circular motion to blend it outwards.
  • Unlike a moisturiser don't swipe it through but put it in a dabbing motion.
  • Don't forget the neck and hairline, this a very common mistake that people make.
  • Allow it to settle in the skin for a few minutes before you apply your foundation.
  • I would recommend to use a moisturiser before primer. ( I do it like this only).

You can choose your primer according to your skin type and read the ingredients properly to choose the right one for yourself.
some companies providing good primers in India are Nyx, colorbar, natio, Pac , Revlon, Benefit, Clinique etc.
